Template:Infobox Shorts wTabs The Merry Old Soul is a 1935 Merrie Melodies cartoon that was re-released in 1952 as a Blue Ribbon reissue.
Plot
This cartoon combines two nursery rhymes to illustrate the ill-advised marriage of Old King Cole to the Woman in the Shoe and the King's unfortunate attempts to keep her "many children" under control. In the end, these all precipitate a nervous breakdown in Old King Cole.
Trivia
- Animation of Old King Cole crying and wailing at the end of this cartoon would be reused in the ending of Good Night Elmer.
- The original titles have been found, but it is unknown if they will be acquired for future releases.
- Ending BR titles use special ending cue first used in The Wacky Wabbit.
- Unlike most pre-1942 color Merrie Melodies cartoons released on The Golden Age of Looney Tunes Volume 5 laserdisc, this cartoon survives its original ending card due to the a.a.p. version (complete with the a.a.p. opening titles intact) released on LaserDisc.
