LOONEY TOONS The Goldbrick (Private Snafu) (1943) (Remastered) (HD 1080p)

The Goldbrick is a Private Snafu cartoon released in 1943.

Plot

When Snafu wishes he could get out of drill, a fairy named Goldie the Goldbrick encourages Snafu to duck out of his training regime for his own reasons.

In the South Pacific, Snafu is too tired to catch up with the rest of the soldiers. Goldie encourages Snafu to fake sickness, and walks straight into an "honorable" booby-trapped hospital. After he escapes, Snafu finds himself in the middle of a battlefield, where a Japanese tank is right on his trail. He gets the idea to dig a foot trench, but Goldie encourages him to only dig a few inches, leaving himself exposed. The tank lands on Snafu, killing him. Goldie then reveals himself to be working for the Japanese, and tells the audience that if enough soldiers goldbrick, the Axis could win the war.

Availability

All of the Private Snafu cartoons are in the public domain. This short was released on Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 4 as an unrestored extra, but both the picture and the audio are much slower than normal due to an error. On other compilations, such as Thunderbean Animation's Private Snafu: Golden Classics, the cartoon plays at the correct speed.
