Censorship[]
- The Nickelodeon version of this cartoon cuts the part where, as Bessie is "birthing" bottles of milk, one of them turns out to be a bottle of chocolate milk with "I Wish I Was in Dixie" plays in the background and Bessie and Porky bashfully look away (the joke being that Bessie "birthed" a black child and, back when this cartoon was made, a white woman birthing a black child was considered socially taboo).[3] Cartoon Network (both on and off The Bob Clampett Show), Boomerang, and MeTV have aired this uncut.
Notes[]
- This is the final short where Chuck Jones was an assistant director; eventually he would become an official director after Frank Tashlin's departure later in 1938.
- This is also the final short to use the alternate version of the 1937-38 opening theme of "The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down" since "Porky's Double Trouble".
- In the computer-colorized version, the final two shots are from the redrawn colorzied version.
- Part of this cartoon would later be used in Bugs vs. Daffy: Battle of the Music Video Stars.
- The poster in the barn depicting “Bull Bontana” is a reference to Lewis “Bull” Montana, a wrestler, boxer, and actor whose career spanned the silent era of film into the 1930s.
- This film was copyrighted on 27 December 1937.[4]
