Plenty of Money and You is a 1937 Merrie Melodies cartoon directed by Friz Freleng.

Plot

All of a hen's eggs hatch, but one of them turns out to be an ostrich. She however keeps it as one of her own. The ostrich has a knack for getting into trouble. He shows this by getting stuck after eating a goldfish, then falling into an basement where he swallows a car jack whole, then having a run-in involving a worm and a lawn sprinkler, and last but not least being captured by a weasel. The weasel is singing while he prepares to cook the ostrich. The ostrich in the mean time swallows a hanging light bulb and a box of fireworks, and those are lit after he's put in the oven. The weasel, irritated at this point, decides to let the ostrich go. At the end the ostrich puts on a fireworks show.

Censorship

• The Censored Looney Tunes & Merrie Melodies guide states that a scene was cut from the original release after the mother hen hugs the baby ostrich, the baby bird shoots fireworks out of its mouth, creating an "Eat at Sloppy Joe's" sign. After this, the film abruptly cuts to the baby ostrich on the ground, but the way the ostrich is animated suggests that it was falling. However, this is not true because the Associated Artists Productions transfer leaves this scene intact.
• The ostrich appears again in a cameo in "The Lyin' Mouse". It also has a role in "Mother was a Rooster".
• This was the first cartoon to end with the "Merrily We Roll Along" theme which would continue until 1964, when the Merrie Melodies used the Looney Tunes theme until 1969, when the WB studio closed. This unique rendition would only present in this cartoon, until "I Wanna Be a Sailor" started with the 1937-38 end cue, which lasted a whole season (approximately one year).
• The USA dubbed version keeps the unique end cue, while the EU dubbed version uses the 1938-41 end cue.
