Nuts and Volts is a 1964 Looney Tunes short directed by Friz Freleng.
Title[]
The title is a play on the phrase "nuts and bolts."
Plot[]
Sylvester pursues after Speedy Gonzales, only to be outrun and out of breath. He receives a flyer to buy various machines and a mice-catching robot. Sylvester uses the ACME technology to try to catch the rodent:
- Sylvester installs an electric eye in front of the mousehole. It activates properly, but Sylvester misses and slams above the mousehole.
- Sylvester then assembles the robot and have it track down Speedy. The robot can't catch Speedy while inside the hole, and eventually the mouse yeehaws behind the robot's back. Sylvester then sets the robot at a fast speed to chase after Speedy, but Speedy hides in the mousehole and the robot slams into the wall, damaging it.
- After Sylvester sends out the robot again, Speedy outruns the robot close to the control panel and it destroys the control panel and takes Sylvester with it.
- "Stupid robot; just one more boo-boo out of you, and I'll send you to the scrap heap." Sylvester tries to send a stick of dynamite inside the mousehole. Speedy directs the dynamite back at Sylvester and it explodes onto him and the robot.
As Sylvester throws out the robot, he runs back to physically attack Speedy, but is chased by a robotic dog, which is being controlled by Speedy. "Hey, I dig this electrical tonic type stuff!"

Goofs[]
- The Mouse Disposal diagram instructs the assembler to connect wire “X” and “W” to battery cable. However, Sylvester reads it as “connect wire “X” and “YX” to battery cable”.
Notes[]
- Despite this being a Looney Tunes short, it uses the Merrie Melodies ending title cards with the Looney Tunes closing theme (1955-1964).
- This is the final WB cartoon directed by Friz Freleng prior to the closure of Termite Terrace.
- The robot in this cartoon looks similar to that of the robot from the 1953 Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd cartoon "Robot Rabbit".
