Lou lilly

Louie Haskall "Lou" Lilly (26 February 1909 – 9 August 1999) was an American animator, writer, and director.

Career[]

Lilly first worked as an extra and wardrobe boy in the film industry before joining the Charles Mintz studio as an animator and later a director when it became known as Screen Gems.[1] He left Screen Gems to work for the Jerry Fairbanks studio where he co-directed the first Speaking of Animals short film "Down on the Farm" with Tex Avery which received an Oscar nomination for Best Short Subject. He went to work for Warner Bros. between 1940 and 1944 working as a gag writer for Bob Clampett (in tandem with Michael Sasanoff and Warren Foster) and Chuck Jones. In 1944, Lilly was signed on to a long-term contract with Fairbanks as production manager for the Speaking of Animals short films.[2] One film that he directed "Who's Who in Animal Land" won an Oscar for Best Short Subject at the 17th Academy Awards.

In 1951, Lilly founded Lou Lilly Prods where he produced and directed commercials for many national agencies. He retired from advertising in 1970 and produced a series of educational films.[1]

Lou Lilly died at the age of 90 from natural causes at his home in Los Angeles, California.
