The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is a law created and designed to protect the privacy of children under 13. The Act was passed by the United States Congress in 1998 and took effect in April 2000. This law is seriously enforced.

There are serious consequences for citizens in the United States who break this law, which include prison time or severe charges. Please refrain from asking minors (people under 18) about their personal information just to be safe.
