Joseph "Joe" Dante, Jr. (b. November 28, 1946) is an American director, producer, and actor. He is best known for directing Piranha, The Howling, Gremlins and its sequel, Explorers, Innerspace, The Burbs, Matinee, and Small Soldiers.

Joe was inspired by the 1943 short, "Falling Hare", to create the original Gremlins film.
