Hippety Hopper is a 1949 cartoon. It was directed by Robert McKimson, from a story by Warren Foster.

Plot

A mouse is attempting to commit suicide, but is stopped at the last minute by a baby kangaroo named Hippety Hopper. The mouse makes a deal with the kangaroo, that he will release him, in exchange the kangaroo will terrorize the mouse's tormentor a cat named Sylvester. He does so by making it look as if vitamins have enlarged the mouse. Sylvester attempts to fight the mouse, but loses and gets set to a ravaging Bulldog. The bulldog tries to fight the kangaroo but the mouse bites the bulldog on the foot and the kangaroo kicks the bulldog out of the house. The bulldog and Sylvester leaves the house and go ballet dancing.

Censorship

When this cartoon aired on FOX as part of Merrie Melodies: Starring Bugs Bunny & Friends, the entire opening sequence of the mouse talking about committing suicide and about to jump off of the docks into the water, only to be saved by Hippety was cut. The cartoon now begins with the mouse letting Hippety out of his crate.

Availability

An unrestored transfer with the Blue Ribbon opening titles was included as a bonus cartoon on Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 6, Disc 1. A restored version with the original opening titles restored was included on Looney Tunes Super Stars' Sylvester & Hippety Hopper: Marsupial Mayhem.

The original closing is kept on both versions as well as the original.
