The Penguin Parade is a 1938 Merrie Melodies short directed by Tex Avery.

Plot[]

Penguins from all over gather at the grand opening of their new nightclub, The Club Iceberg. As the settlers comes in the nightclub, drunk and telling nonsensical jokes, the show begins:

  • A large flock of penguins marches onto the front of the stage, then up the middle by walking sideways in the air.
  • A penguin enacts the song When My Dreamboat Comes Home, which includes a Three Stooge penguin trio during the midway.

The final encore comes, which eventually leads to the band tiring out, stating that the audience is screwy if they think they'll keep it up all night.

Notes[]

  • Tex Avery voices a walrus in this cartoon.
  • Throughout the short, a microphone with the letters "KFWB" is frequently shown. At the time of the cartoon's release, KFWB was a radio station owned by Warner Bros.
  • A penguin says Warner Bros., Ray Katz and Leon Schlesinger in the background in gibberish.
  • When the short was restored in 2020 for HBO Max, the opening titles were put at the end of the short. Consequently, the short starts with the title credits as a result. This error caused the short to be quickly removed from the service upon its discovery. This was fixed in subsequent releases of the restoration, including the print on Looney Tunes Collector's Choice: Volume 2.
